Europabrücke: Under the Grey Sky

About

Spanning the Limmat River in Zurich, Switzerland, the Europabrücke is a prominent bridge connecting the neighborhoods of Höngg and Wipkingen. Opened in 1962, this steel truss bridge stretches 152 meters (499 feet) in length and serves as a vital transportation link for both pedestrians and vehicles traversing the river.

This photo of the Europabrücke was taken in January 2024 from the viewing platform near Kirche Höngg. Accessing the platform presented its own challenges as the rain made the stone road leading to it quite slippery.

Interesting Fact: The Europabrücke is not only a functional bridge but also a cultural landmark. It has been featured in various films, television shows, and artworks, contributing to its status as an iconic symbol of Zurich’s urban landscape. Notable examples include its appearance in the 1979 film “The Swiss Conspiracy” and the 2008 German television series “Tatort: Todesstrafe.”
